This is a process whereby adrenaline and all sorts of other chemicals are released to \u2018fuel\u2019 us for what comes next. Our body literally redirects blood flow from a digestive tract to our muscles and limbs, so that we are supercharged to defend ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/fight_or_flight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7325 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/fight_or_flight.jpg\" alt=\"fight_or_flight\" width=\"300\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even our senses go into \u2018attack mode\u2019, as fear urges them to listen more intently and to take in our surroundings to pinpoint danger zones. Our rational mind and lifelong principles draw back, as our primitive survival instincts push to the forefront. It is, therefore, of extreme importance for one to know basic self-defence techniques, to ensure the best judgment when our actions are controlled by fear.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a list of basic self-defence techniques that could save your life:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Blow to the shin<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/kick-to-the-shin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7328\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/kick-to-the-shin-287x300.jpg\" alt=\"kick to the shin\" width=\"287\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If someone attacks you from behind, lift your heel and grind it into the attacker\u2019s shin, scraping it down the length of it. This will inflict a substantial amount of pain and discomfort to the assailant, as you assault the bone.<\/p>\n<p>If you feel confident that you have done enough damage, flee the scene. Remember it\u2019s about getting away, not winning.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Eye for an eye<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You might be repulsed by the concept of poking someone\u2019s eye out, but if your life was in jeopardy, then \u2018opening a can\u2019 on his hide, could be the deal breaker.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/defence-against-strangle-179.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7320\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/defence-against-strangle-179-300x215.jpg\" alt=\"defence-against-strangle-179\" width=\"300\" height=\"215\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grab your attacker by the ears. This will put your thumbs in line with the eye sockets. Push your thumbs into his eyes, and apply a substantial amount of pressure to injure him. Holding the attacker by the ears will ensure that you don\u2019t lose your grip as he tries to avoid the assault.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Throat poke<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7323\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/throat-poke.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7323\" class=\"wp-image-7323 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/throat-poke-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"throat poke\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-7323\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">If you are unable to pinpoint the windpipe&#8217;s location, grab the pipe and squeeze, as indicated in the image on the right.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jab your finger, ideally not your thumb, between where the attacker\u2019s neck ends and breastbone begins. If your attacker is male, this will be at the base of his Adam\u2019s apple. Apply as much pressure as possible, as this will obstruct the windpipe, making it impossible for the assailant to breathe. Once you are satisfied that he has been incapacitated, make a run for it.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Block and hit<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/block-and-hit.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7318\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/block-and-hit-254x300.jpg\" alt=\"block and hit\" width=\"254\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If your attacker strikes at you, raise an arm above your head to block the blow, and swing a punch with your other arm. Aim for the ribs, abdomen and torso or under the chin, to cause the most bodily harm.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Knee work<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/knee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7321\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/knee-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"knee\" width=\"300\" height=\"162\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you have the opportunity to knee your attacker, aim for the groin, abdomen and ribs. This should break the assailant\u2019s hold.
