\"camping\"<\/a>As we enter the last leg of summer, our days spent soaking up the sun will lessen. Thankfully, there\u2019s still a month of guaranteed sunshine, and what better way to spend it than in the great outdoors?<\/p>\n

I recently enjoyed all of Mother Nature\u2019s goodness in a weekend-long, traditional tent camp at Tweede Tol (It’s in the middle of nowhere about 20km outside of Wellington on Baine’s Kloof Pass).<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, being amateur campers, we ended up lacking vital camping necessities \u2013 like lanterns<\/a>. Despite having packed everything but the kitchen sink; we never considered the fact that our only source of energy would be sunlight and firelight.
\nThe lack of electricity<\/a> put an interesting spin on the weekend\u2019s activities. Having \u2018left the world behind\u2019, we reveled in traditional camp fire banter. One of the topics discussed was what to bring on a camp, and we concurred that it takes intricate planning for outdoorsy activities to run seamlessly.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a list of a things that you will need (so much for travelling light!):<\/p>\n

Shelter:<\/strong><\/a>
\n\u2022 Tent
\n\u2022 Extra pegs for your tent
\n\u2022 Repair kit for your tent<\/p>\n

Bedding:<\/strong><\/a>
\n\u2022 Sleeping bag (or a sheet and blanket)
\n\u2022 Pillow
\n\u2022 Air mattress
\n\u2022 Air pump (We used one that can be connected to your car\u2019s cigarette lighter, which makes light work of pumping up your mattress.)<\/p>\n

Use a checklist when planning a camping trip, and layout all the items before packing to ensure that you haven\u2019t missed anything.<\/p><\/div>\n

Cooking<\/a>:<\/strong>
\n\u2022 Large container of drinking water (preferably iced so that it will stay cooler for longer.)
\n\u2022 Matches\/Lighter
\n\u2022 Charcoal\/firewood
\n\u2022 Fire starters
\n\u2022 Braai grid
\n\u2022 Crockery and cutlery
\n\u2022 Mugs and glasses (Stainless steel would be best)
\n\u2022 Containers for food storage<\/p>\n

Miscellaneous:\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>
\n\u2022 Hat
\n\u2022 Socks
\n\u2022 Shower shoes\/Flip Flops
\n\u2022 Toilet paper
\n\u2022 Sunscreen
\n\u2022 Lantern
\n\u2022 Torch with extra batteries
\n\u2022 First Aid kit
\n\u2022 Maps\/Directions
\n\u2022 Fully charged camera batteries, and spares<\/p>\n

Despite not being thoroughly prepared for our bushwhacking weekend, it was loads of fun. \u00a0So, cheers to Mother Nature and the century (maybe millennium) old discovery of fire!
