{"id":248,"date":"2010-05-06T15:50:50","date_gmt":"2010-05-06T13:50:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/?p=248"},"modified":"2010-05-06T15:50:50","modified_gmt":"2010-05-06T13:50:50","slug":"the-adobe-vs-apple-saga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/blog\/the-adobe-vs-apple-saga\/","title":{"rendered":"The Adobe vs Apple Saga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pricecheck.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">read blogs<\/a> focused on technology then you would be aware that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Apple&amp;brand_search=1\" target=\"_blank\">Apple<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Adobe\" target=\"_blank\">Adobe<\/a> have been having some issues with one another. It all started with the iPhone and then the wound got re-opened with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Apple+iPad\" target=\"_blank\">iPad<\/a>. Apple has not allowed Flash to be functional on their devices.<\/p>\n<p>There are multiple reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It decreases the battery life of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Apple&amp;brand_search=1\" target=\"_blank\">Apple products.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>It adds another layer between the device and the operating software which can lead to hacking.<\/li>\n<li> The Apple products (iPhone, iPod and iPad) are used via a touch screen and fingers and not a mouse as in the case of a regular <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/categories\/102\/Desktop+PCs\/\" target=\"_blank\">PC<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Potentially most Flash websites would be have to rewritten in order to function with these touch based devices.<\/p>\n<p>Apple have decided rather to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153adopt HTML5, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=CSS\" target=\"_blank\">CSS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Javascript\" target=\"_blank\">JavaScript<\/a> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c all open standards. Apple\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s mobile devices all ship with high performance, low power implementations of these open standards. HTML5, the new web standard that has been adopted by Apple, Google and many others&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Adobe however has made it known that in the second half of this year, Flash will be available on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/categories\/f\/126\/Cellular+Phones\/f\/269\/Android\/0\/tp.weekly\/DESC\/\" target=\"_blank\">Android<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Palm&amp;brand_search=1\" target=\"_blank\">Palm<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/offers\/9524370\/Palm+Pre\/\" target=\"_blank\">webOS<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=BlackBerry\" target=\"_blank\">BlackBerry<\/a> devices. Currently this is in private beta testing and will then proceed to public testing at a later stage, prior to the launch of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search\/?search=Adobe+Flash&amp;search_category_id=114\" target=\"_blank\">Flash<\/a> on these devices. I have a suspicion that this is will probably feature on the rumored \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Google Tablet\u00e2\u20ac\u009d. So who is the biggest loser in all of this?\u00c2\u00a0 The consumer, as you will have to decide between the two companies.
