The game’s marketing material even highlighted how newcomers can jump straight into this zany world with little foreshadowing as to what happened in the first game. Essentially, following a nuclear war, things have gone pear-shaped for humanity. You play as one of the last remaining Rangers in the wasteland who sets out to take out some tyrannical baddies and maniacs in order to bring some smidgen of law back into the world.

In terms of gameplay, Rage 2 takes a far more fun and tongue-in-cheek approach, adding in a ton of zany weaponry and special powers – such as a quick teleportation attack – to get an edge in combat and keep your kill-count ticking over. Everything you do is heightened by speed, stylish kills, and creativity, making you feel like you’re playing a acid-trip induced shooting gallery. There’s also a healthy dose of vehicular combat to split up the on-foot chaos, which is actually surprisingly robust and fill the voids of some admittedly long drives across the sprawling map.

Every new upgrade and ability you get throughout the game adds a new dynamic gunfights, which makes them more and more interesting as the game goes on.
