According to a report published by Zenith, mobile internet consumption increased at an average rate of 44% a year between 2010 and 2016. This is driven by the spread of mobile devices, improvements in technology and greater availability of mobile-adapted content. The average person spent 456 minutes consuming media in 2016, up from 411 minutes in 2010 \u2013 an average increase of 2% a year.<\/p>\n<p>Now that mobile devices play such an integral\u00a0role in so many people\u2019s lives the growth in mobile internet use is slowing &#8211; thanks partly to the lack of innovation , causing a knock-on effect of the growth in media consumption. In 2016, mobile internet use grew 25%, down from 43% growth in 2015, and it&#8217;s expected to grow 17% in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMobile technology has thoroughly disrupted consumers\u2019 media habits in less than a decade,\u201d said Jonathan Barnard, Head of Forecasting at Zenith. \u201cThe pace of change is now slowing \u2013 at least until the next disruptive technology takes off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>2014 was the year that desktop reigned as the primary way of accessing the internet, however in 2015 mobile overtook desktop. Zenith forecast&#8217;s that 71% of all internet consumption will be mobile in 2017.
