The name itself shows the company\u2019s \u201coff the beaten path\u201d mentality to develop a console the likes of which has never been seen before \u2013 it\u2019s a big gamble, but one thing is for sure, it\u2019s unique and fun to play. This is the foundation of the Nintendo Wii.<\/p>\n

From the outset, it needs to be said that this console is not intended to be a direct competitor to the PS3 and the Xbox 360 \u2013 it\u2019s a gaming system that offers a completely different type of experience and is intended to co-exist with other consoles.<\/p>\n

The basics<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. It\u2019s very easy to set up; everything that you need is in the box<\/li>\n
  2. The Wi-Fi connection works with WPA and WEP encrypted networks<\/li>\n
  3. The controller requires two AA batteries<\/li>\n
  4. It can stand vertically<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The built-in Wi-Fi gives you access to the Virtual Console<\/em> \u2013 a splendid feature. It allows you to purchase and download epic titles from the past; you can experience all of the classics \u2013 nostalgic to say the least! The majority of the games are unaltered because they are run through software emulation.<\/p>\n

    It needs to be said that the TV-remote-like controller (called the Wiimote) takes a while to become familiar with, but the Wii is equipped with an online tutorial to help you.<\/p>\n

    Once you\u2019ve got the hang of it, it\u2019s all systems go! The game catalogue features titles that are suitable for the whole family \u2013 it\u2019s a new dimension of fun. Enjoy<\/p>\n

    Safety tips: <\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Ensure that the hand strap is always secured; if not, there\u2019s a good chance the Wiimote will go flying across the room.<\/li>\n
    2. If you\u2019re playing with a group of people, make sure there is a decent amount of space between you.<\/li>\n
    3. Move breakable objects from your vicinity because depending on the game, you may be moving around a lot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The Nintendo Wii is a fantastic family-friendly console, perfect to enjoy with your loved ones and friends. It isn\u2019t going to rival the Sony and Microsoft gaming systems in certain areas, but that\u2019s not the intention. The bottom line is that the Wii is FUN to play!<\/p>\n

      Pros: <\/strong>Innovative wireless controller; compatible with Netflix streaming; built-in Wi-Fi allows access to free online features; backwards compatibility with GameCube titles; there is a bundle that offers Wii Sport and Wii Sports Resort games; MotionPlus peripheral<\/p>\n

      Cons: <\/strong>No HD graphics; controller takes a while to get used to; it can\u2019t play CDs or DVDs; limited game catalogue; top resolution of only 480p; sub-par controller battery life<\/p>\n
