Parts of South Africa are currently facing\u00a0one of the worst water crisis’ that our country has seen in years. This has led to parts of the country being put under water restrictions and limitations forcing many to get smart on how they use water.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are a few ways that you can cut your water consumption and save water<\/h2>\n

Saving water around the home:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Switch\u00a0off your\u00a0tap while brushing teeth, shaving or using your sink<\/li>\n
  2. Take showers over using a bath<\/li>\n
  3. Always use a plugged-sink or bowl instead of\u00a0keeping your taps running<\/li>\n
  4. Bathe younger children together<\/li>\n
  5. Flush your toilet only when necessary<\/li>\n
  6. Only use your dishwasher when it is full<\/li>\n
  7. Don’t use running water to defrost any food<\/li>\n
  8. Be smart about doing your laundry and try and cut back on washing linens or towels if possible<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Saving water in your garden:<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Use grey water systems<\/a> to water your garden<\/li>\n
    2. Check your pool filters regularly for leaks<\/li>\n
    3. Adjust sprinkler systems to only reach your garden and not any bricks or pavements<\/li>\n
    4. Fill your swimming pool sparingly<\/li>\n
    5. Plant indigenous plants that are easy to maintain and require less water<\/li>\n
    6. Only water your plants in the early hours of the morning, or in the evening when it’s not hot<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Other ways to be water wise:<\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Water tanks<\/a> allow you to store and use your own water supply<\/li>\n
      2. Keep an eye on\u00a0news and online reports as to the state of the water shortages<\/li>\n
      3. Install a rain gauge<\/a> to keep track of the rainfall in your area<\/li>\n
      4. Only wash your car at a car wash that you know recycles their water<\/li>\n
      5. Use less electricity, power plants make use thousands of gallons of water every day<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
