There have, however, been a few standout devices.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: 18pt;\">The\u00a0Top 10 Gadgets of 2016<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Here&#8217;s a roundup of our top 10 gadgets of 2016:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">1. Nintendo Switch<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/UJyaEvR9sqg00_dZoLE4Y3KitI8AShqa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18172\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/UJyaEvR9sqg00_dZoLE4Y3KitI8AShqa.jpg\" alt=\"Nintendo Switch\" width=\"600\" height=\"341\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Nintendo hasn&#8217;t been able to compete with the likes of Sony and Microsoft in the gaming arena for ages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Their previous attempts at gaming consoles &#8211; both handheld and home bound &#8211; have failed to gain traction on the mass consumer market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The company had been teasing a mysterious\u00a0new console for ages and, in October, they finally unveiled the Switch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">While many details about the console are not yet known, the most interesting &#8220;feature&#8221; of the device is its modular design.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Capable of being used as either a home bound console, which is connected to your TV, or as a handheld console, the Switch looks set to turn the gaming world on its head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">More info about the Nintendo Switch will be announced by the company on 12 January 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">2. Amazon Echo<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/61St9KWqFCL._SL1000_.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18159\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/61St9KWqFCL._SL1000_.jpg\" alt=\"61St9KWqFCL._SL1000_\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Amazon is known as the online retailer. Microsoft Surface Studio<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-13-at-11.49.07-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18162\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-13-at-11.49.07-AM-1024x453.png\" alt=\"Surface Studio\" width=\"600\" height=\"265\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Microsoft has taken to making their own hardware, which looks to be the best thing for the company.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Long considered to be the software workhorse and not the creative force that Apple is, Microsoft&#8217;s new Surface Studio is challenging that perception.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The company&#8217;s first desktop aims to redesign what we think of as an all-in-one PC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Not only is the the display a whopping 28 inches, it&#8217;s also touchscreen and supports stylus input.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Packing either an Intel i5 or i7 processor, up to 32GB RAM, and an NVIDIA graphics card, the Surface Studio is set to be a powerhouse device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Not currently available in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">6. iPhone 7 Plus<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-13-at-11.52.30-AM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18166\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-13-at-11.52.30-AM-1024x657.png\" alt=\"iPhone 7 Plus\" width=\"600\" height=\"385\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Apple&#8217;s iPhone has long been seen as the standard for smartphones and, this year, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus continue Apple&#8217;s tradition of refining their existing products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The 7 Plus is not only the larger of the two handsets, it&#8217;s also fits iPhone with a rear-facing, dual-camera setup.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The second rear-facing camera is a 12MP telephoto lens, which supports up to 10x optical zoom (thanks to software tweaks).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">This means that you can now add depth perception to your images, as well as capture them in RAW DNG format.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Cost: From R17 499 (for the 128GB model) on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search?search=iphone%207%20plus&amp;category=126\" target=\"_blank\">PriceCheck<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">7. Google Pixel\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/pixel.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18164\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/pixel.jpg\" alt=\"pixel\" width=\"600\" height=\"362\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Google&#8217;s Nexus range of smartphones is no more.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The search giant has replaced the Android purist&#8217;s favourite smartphone with a new range, simply called Pixel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">While the hardware for the two new devices (the Pixel and the Pixel XL) is actually made by HTC, you&#8217;ll find none of the company&#8217;s branding on this handset.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">From a design perspective, the Pixel and Pixel XL, bear a striking resemblance to Apple&#8217;s iPhone. But, that&#8217;s where the similarities end.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Pixel and Pixel XL both run a special version of the latest Android OS, Nougat. DJI Phantom 4\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Phantom-4-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18167\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Phantom-4-1.jpg\" alt=\"Phantom-4\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Phantom 4 is the latest high-end commercial drone from DJI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">It has two optical sensors, which scan for objects in the way of the drone and automatically redirect the drone around those objects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">It also has a new \u201cSport Mode\u201d, for advanced flyers, to give you a taste of what drone racing feels like. In \u201cSport Mode,\u201d the Phantom 4 can fly 20 meters per second (45 miles per hour) and ascends and descends more rapidly than in other modes. The craft\u2019s acceleration and top speed in \u201cSport Mode\u201d also means it can reach locations for shots faster and capture shots you couldn\u2019t get before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">All of these features, coupled with the world&#8217;s first aerial stabilised 4K camera, makes this one of the best drones on the market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Cost: From R18 999 on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pricecheck.co.za\/search?search=dji+phantom+4\" target=\"_blank\">PriceCheck<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">9. Xiaomi Mi Mix<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/xiaomi-mix.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18163\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/xiaomi-mix.jpg\" alt=\"xiaomi-mix\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Known as the Apple of China, Xiaomi has widely been criticised for it&#8217;s copying of Apple&#8217;s flagship products.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">With the release of the Mi Mix, a concept phone that actually went on sale, that perception has been obliterated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Mi Mix looks like no other phone on the market, thanks to the display which takes up 91.3% of the front of the device.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The only bezel that exists on the front of the phone is at the bottom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Xiaomi has ensured that the Mi Mix doesn&#8217;t just look good, but that it also packs some of the best specs of any smartphone currently on the market. These include 4GB RAM, Snapdragon 821 chipset, 128GB onboard storage, and a 4400mAh battery.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Xiaomi Mi Mix is not currently available in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">10. PS VR<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/psvr-15mar16-us-gallery_10.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18269\" src=\"http:\/\/compareguru.co.za\/content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/psvr-15mar16-us-gallery_10-1024x683.jpeg\" alt=\"psvr-15mar16-us-gallery_10\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Virtual reality is the biggest new medium in technology.
