The PriceCheck Guide: Be A Tourist In Your Own City (Part 2)

0

Last week PriceCheck gave you the low down about travelling and things to do in Cape Town. This week, in part 2 of our series, we shift our focus to Durban. There’s a lot to do and see so we have chosen just a few to wet your appetite…

Sky Adventures offer you the chance to see the unspoilt grasslands and hills of Zululand by souring high above it in a helicopter. The flight starts by heading to the Umhlanga Lagoon with an awesome coastal view of the Indian Ocean. You will also be able to witness the Valley of a Thousand Hills, which is absolutely breathtaking. The helicopter will then take you down slowly to a mountain slope where a prepared picnic awaits you. All you need to do is bring along a camera to capture the wonderful memories we are sure you are bound to make.

If a water adventure is what you are looking for, then look no further than jet skiing in Durban. The Hazelmere Dam offers the perfect place for you to ski and chase new horizons. While your hands are firmly gripped on the handlebars, focus your attention on the wildlife like Impala, Zebra’s and Wildebeests that may be your audience!  If you need to take a little break and relax, stopping for a rest on land to enjoy the scenery at a slower pace is totally possible. Liquid Jetsports allows you to rent out all the equipment, so all you have to do is be ready for the ride of your life.

Kite surfing might seem like a simple task, however the opposite is true. This activity is no easy feat. Durban beaches are ideal for this action sport and what’s more, you have the chance to acquire the skills by being taught by the International Kite Board Organisation (IKO) instructors’ right there on the beach. This sport takes patience, strength and lots of skill. It isn’t just flying a blue ribboned kite like you used to when you were a kid. This sport requires you to be aware of the safety systems and emergency procedures…however, it definitely is not WWE worthy safety precautions! This activity provides hours of fun and adrenaline release at the beach.

Aliwal Shoal in Durban provides the perfect place for you to scuba! You can dive and experience the reef with lots of gullies, caves and overhangs. The depth ranges from 5m to 35m so you have a choice as to how deep you want to dive. Scuba diving here will provide you the opportunity to witness Tiger, Ragged Tooth and Great Reef sharks if you’re keen. All equipment is on offer for rent from local divers as well as training. This is really something great to do while travelling in Durban and will definitely provide you with an experience of a life time.

Ever see those hot air balloons and thought how cool and wonderful it would be to actually be in it? Wonder no further. Discover Durban and the Natal Midlands from a totally new and unique perspective. Experience the thrill of floating high in the sky and feeling the peace and serenity of the surroundings and what lies beneath you. If you are slightly or really afraid of trying this, don’t be…the hot air balloons have specially designed partitioned baskets that are about 1.1 meters in height. Wear comfortable/casual clothes. You also don’t have to worry about freezing whilst up in the air, the temperature is quite similar to that of the ground and you shouldn’t experience discomfort during the one hour trip!

So, as you can see, Durban has lots to offer on land, air and sea! Be sure to experience as much of these as you can this summer or simply any time you visit the wonderful city of Durban.

If there are any other cool things you have done or would like to recommend, let PriceCheck know about it!
