Review: Battlefield 1 – PS4

0

Say hello to the 15th installment of the epic first-person shooter! So, if you’re a fan of history and an avid gamer, this title is perfectly suited to you – are you ready for battle?

Platform: PS4

Genre: First-person shooter

Game mode: Single player; multiplayer

Firstly, you’ll be delighted to know that Digital Foundry has commented that the resolution of the PS4 is better compared to the Xbox One.

The game takes place during the events of World War 1 (WW1). You’re going to need to become acquainted with the weapons that were used during this time such as flamethrowers, bolt-action rifles and even mustard gas. The developers at EA DICE have taken this a step further and have introduced weapons suited for chaotic close combat; you can expect sabres, spiked maces and bayonets as well as an array of explosives and firearms.

You’ll be controlling six different characters over six “War Stories”, each of which are set in different places and times.

Here is an overview of three of the chapters – the rest you’ll have to discover for yourself!

Storm of Steel

You’re part of the United States 369th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Harlem Hellfighters. Defense is the name of the game; you’re trying to survive against a strong German offensive. This is going to really test you.

If your character dies, you are shifted to the first-person perspective on another solider.

Through Mud and Blood

It’s the fall of 1918 and your character, Danny Edwards, is right in the middle of the Battle of Cambrai – the allies’ final offensive against the Central Powers.

You are assigned to a crew and need to try and break through German lines to reach the town of Cambrai. If you achieve this goal, it will make a historic impact!

Friends in High Places

It’s the spring of 1917 and you control an American pilot named Clyde Blackburn. It’s a story of deceitfulness, insubordination and ultimate betrayal – are you able to accept the eventuality of your actions?

According to Trusted Reviews, “Battlefield 1 has managed to produce not just one, but a series of incredibly crafted and powerful set-pieces capable of going toe to toe with any of them, as well as the best opening level since Medal of Honor Frontline’s ‘D-Day’.”

Pros: Incredible graphics; large variety of weapons; amazing storyline; phenomenal gameplay

Cons: Long load times

Verdict: 9/10
