Great news for French car fans: Peugeot Citroën South Africa has confirmed a new bakkie wearing the Peugeot badge is scheduled to hit local roads in 2021. Speaking to CARmag.co.za, Peugeot Citroën South Africa’s managing director, Xavier Gobille, confirmed the soon-to-be-revealed rugged model would be offered in South Africa very soon.

The new Peugeot branded pick-up will be revealed in the coming months and will only be available in certain markets, with South Africa being one of them. While there are few details surrounding Peugeot’s new bakkie offering, we do know that the French car manufacturer recently signed an agreement with Chinese firm ChangAn Automobile to co-develop a new one-tonne pick-up.

But it remains to be seen if this is the bakkie we can expect here in South Africa, in June 2019, ChangAn revealed its double-cab version of the new pick-up badged as the “F70”. With rugged good looks, the F70 is indeed the type of bakkie that would appeal to the local South African market. If ChangAn’s F70 is anything to go by, it’s clear that this new bakkie offering will signal the beginning of a new market focus for Peugeot South Africa as it aims to change brand perception in the SA market.
