Get Your Garden Set For Winter

0

It is the middle of April and the seasons are about to start changing. It is getting darker earlier and light in the morning are later than compared to 6 weeks ago. If sanity prevails then winter is around the corner for South Africa and planning for your garden is the first step in ensuring that your garden/plants will endure the weather change.

So for example when mowing your lawn, the time between the cuts should be longer than in comparison to summer. So your lawnmower will be feeling lonely as you will be taking a bit of a break.

Also with the possibility of rain, having the chance to sprinkle supplements to increase the growth is a good idea. Just make sure that the rain is for a continued period of days as I have witnessed the effects when the rain is little and the grass is damaged.

Pruning of trees and hedges are also needed to be done but I would recommend that you read about the specific tree or plant before cutting a branch with a pair of shears. Remember, incorrect pruning could adversely affect the growth for the entire year.

I would also recommend that you have a look at your pot plants and make sure that there is plenty of space for the plants roots to develop in the pot. If this is not the case, you could be harming the growth. Then make a decision to buy a bigger pot or move the plant into the garden.
