I love this time of the year as a gadget owner. We are about 11 weeks away from Christmas and every manufacturer is clamouring to get their latest wares for sale online. I can just hear the sound of ripping gift wrap…. it’s like an opera performance to my ears.
There are a few rumours floating around in the tech industry. There is the much anticipated Google tablet and the rumour that Apple TV is no longer just a hobby for Steve Jobs. But what has also caught my attention is the possibility of touch screen Apple iMac desktop computer.
The touch screen is not anything innovative. What has happened is that the iPhone, iPad and the BlackBerry Torch have made touch screens more popular. These days touch screens are more widely used than ever before.
The iMac is arguably Apple’s flagship desktop computer. In my opinion it’s the capacitive touch screen that will ensure that Apple users will be able to use their fingers on their screens. This touch screen is rumoured to be available on a 22†Apple iMac that will fit in between 21.5†and 27†versions.
However my immediate thought is that the Cupertino Company could in effect be making the magic mouse less attractive to iMac owners. By doing this Apple can potentially justify an increase in price for this iMac as one would not need to buy a mouse. One striking thing about updates to Apple products is that they always rollout to multiple products and not to a single niche model. This could also illustrate the belief inside Apple that the iOS operating software is the future of their business.
This possible iMac illustrates just what a hype machine Apple has become. Why pay for marketing and PR when blogs do it for you? Come on Steve we know you love the attention.
