eBay Is Bringing Virtual Reality Shopping Into The Real World

0

The world of technology in 2016 has been dominated by news of virtual reality in all it’s forms. Now online shopping giant eBay are merging the worlds of virtual reality and online shopping to bring users a completely new and exciting experience.

Partnering with department store chain Myer, eBay have created the world’s first virtual reality department store; a place where users can shop without having to go to one of the brick-and-mortar shops.

The new initiative will essentially be adding an element of touch to our digital shopping experience, which at the moment only incorporates vision into the experience.

Rather than only being able to view the different products on offer, users will also be able to handle the products in the VR department store. This offers retailers an entirely new way to showcase their products to online shoppers.

They will be able to offer a far more “real” experience where users will be able to interact with the products, giving them an opportunity to view the products in greater detail and to get a feel for any special features.

Virtual reality shopping is still in it’s nascent stages, and this may be an opportunity for eBay to get a head start on other online retailers if the technology manages to resonate with the new generation of shoppers.
