Mobile World Congress, which took place in Barcelona, Spain earlier this year was abuzz with talk about one handset. Not a fancy new high-end flagship smartphone, no, everyone was talking about the new Nokia 3310.
The much loved classic – and near indestructible phone – is making a comeback in 2017 thanks to HMD Global, the company behind Nokia’s return to the mobile phone world.
After having gone on sale – and selling out immediately – in other locations throughout the world, the new 3310 is now available in South Africa.
The new 3310 is not an Android phone and instead relies on Nokia’s Series 30+ operating system. That means that you won’t be able to download apps and games to it, however you will be able to play the new version of Snake which was redesigned for the new 3310.
The phone has a 2MP rear facing camera, a 2.4-inch colour display, an LED torch, up to 31 days standby time and up to 22 hours talktime.
“We are delighted to bring the Nokia 3310 phone to our consumers in South Africa. Nokia has been one of the most iconic and recognisable phone brands in our country for decades. HMD has received an incredible reception from our partners so far; it seems everyone shares our excitement for this next chapter. Our consumers are more discerning and demanding than ever before and for us they will always come first. We’ve worked really hard with our teams around the world to bring together world class manufacturers, operating systems and technology partners, enabling us to proudly start sales of the Nokia 3310, a classic reimagined,” said Shaun Durandt, General Manager, HMD Global, Southern Africa.
Nokia has won the Mobile Phone Devices Category in the 2017/2018 Kasi Star Brands Survey
The Kasi Star Brands are product and service brands selected by South Africa’s vibrant and diverse township community based on the most loyally used brands. These brands define a common experience to which South Africa’s township consumers are committed to. “We are ecstatic and very grateful that Nokia Phones have been selected as the winner of the Mobile Phone Devices category. We will continue to develop devices that our consumers want and need,” commented Shaun Durandt, General Manager, HMD Global, Southern Africa.
