Lee mentioned last week the sad news that innovator extraordinaire Doug Engelbart passed away at age 88. The importance of this news might have escaped the main stream media and the man in the street but Doug Engelhart invented one of the most used computing devices today, the mouse.
Can you even begin to think about a computing experience that does not contain a mouse? Everyone uses a mouse in some way or shape (the only exception being touch screen enabled devices) almost everyday. May it be browsing the web, typing documents (many admit to losing their place while typing or editing a document) or playing games.
Let us all be honest. If we take the mouse away, interaction between us and our computer becomes impossible. Mr Engelbart was a visionary who made an impact on the entire computer industry, whether it be the gaming mouse, desktop mouse or any mouse that can be used in conjunction with a computer. As one computer user, I wish to thank Mr Engelbart for his enormous contribution to computing.
