You’ve sacrificed and saved and now it’s finally time to reap the rewards: Strap on that backpack and head off on your overseas or local backpacking adventure! If you’re a first-time backpacker, here are five essentials items you’ll need as you prepare to conquer the trail or road.

Backpack. The pack you choose will be your best friend for the duration of your trip, so make sure you get the best backpack for your build and comfort.

Flash drive. Wherever you go you’ll be snapping photos on whichever device you’re taking on the road with you. Download your pictures onto a flash drive as you go to ensure you always have space for new photos. You’ll also be able to copy pictures from the friends you make along the way!

Umbrella. Don’t think you won’t have space for one. When you’re caught in a storm in the middle of nowhere you’ll be happy you planned ahead. And you’ll be dry!

Sunglasses. No matter where you’re headed and no matter what the season, you’ll need your sunglasses. A high-quality pair will make your journey much easier on your eyes.

Travel adapter. Nowadays we travel with a cellphone, a tablet computer, possibly a laptop computer and perhaps even more devices. So be sure you’re able to stay charged and in touch with mom back at home, no matter what your age with a travel adaptor to keep all of your gadgets charged.
