Nike’s ‘Flyleather’ Cortez Sneakers Unveiled

0

Nike’s iconic Cortez has undergone a bit of a change, with the American shoe giant announcing that a full ‘Flyleather’ edition will now be available to the public.

But, what is Flyleather? It’s Nike’s sustainable material that is made with at least 50 percent leather fibre. The manufacturing process starts with Nike gathering all the off-cut leather scraps that come from their other products. Then they take synthetic fibres in roughly a 50/50 split with the scrap leather, and in a high-pressure bonding process, the materials are fused.

The result is improved durability and a lighter weight for the shoe, as is the case with the new Flyleather Cortez, which retails for around $110 (around R1,500) a pair.

Nike has also experimented with Flyleather editions of the Air Max and classic Tennis Classic, but the Cortez mark the first full-production range available to consumers.

Nike isn’t the only company focusing on eco-friendly footwear, as Reebok recently unveiled theinew plant-based footwear initiative!
