2016 has not been a good year for LG Mobile.
The company’s much-hyped G5 modular style phone ended up costing them hundreds of millions of dollars instead of solidifying their place as a smartphone powerhouse.
Yet, instead of bowing out of the smartphone game, the company has returned with a media powerhouse in the form of the V20, successor to 2015’s wildly popular V10.
Introducing The LG V20
LG’s V series is aimed at people who are looking for the best media and audio consumption device they can get.
The company says that they’ve “looked at the customers of the V10 and examined what they wanted and needed. They determined that the V20 should be developed with “storytellers” in mind. For anyone who has something to say, anyone who has an experience to share.”
“The V20 collects and improves on users’ favourite features from past models. This includes the unbeatable dual rear-facing cameras that made the LG G5 such a hit. The devices multimedia capabilities cater to professional needs, while still being easy enough for the general public to understand, and utilise,” says Deon Prinsloo, General Manager of LG Mobile at LG Electronics South Africa.
Like the V10, the V20 retains the secondary display located above the main display. It also brings in a rear-facing dual-camera setup, much like the one found on the G5.
LG V20 Features
Other features include:
Steady Record 2.0
Thanks to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor with X12 LTE, the V20 has what LG calls “Steady Record 2.0”.
It leverages Qualcomm Technologies’ electronic image stabilisation (EIS) 3.0, to record sharper video footage while neutralising shaky images. The gyro-based EIS improves sync accuracy between the image and the gyro by reducing sync latency to only 50 microseconds. EIS is complemented by digital image stabilisation (DIS). This further improves video quality in post-processing. It does this by adjusting objects across frames and minimising distortion caused by rolling shutter for smoother action.
Hi-Fi Video Recording
If you’re looking to record Hi-Fi videos on a mobile device, then this is the phone for you. The V20 lets you record Hi-Fi videos and manually control the settings for perfect audio quality. You can do this by using options such as Low Cut Filter (LCF), that removes unwanted background noise, and Limiter (LMT), that sets recording distance. The LCF reduces background noise while the LMT zeroes in on voices the user wants to record. The V20 also captures audio using 24-bit / 48 kHz Linear Pulse Code Modulation (LPCM). The same format used in professional video equipment.
