If you’re a lover of LEGO; a comic book fan and a Marvel movie enthusiast, then this is a no-brainer! It’s the game for you. It’s an open-world adventure thrill ride that boasts over 100 characters – prepare to be enthralled!
Platform: PC
Genre: Action-adventure
Game mode: Single-player; multiplayer
LEGO Avengers is the successor of the popular Lego Marvel Superheroes and is the second game to be released in the Marvel franchise.
All of the characters are from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The game follows the plot primarily follows that of the Avenger films, but it also includes storylines from Iron Man 3; Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
The game follows an open-world concept, giving you the ability to roam freely. New York City is the main centre of the game, but you have the opportunity to travel throughout the USA and even to other countries such as South Africa. In each location there are many different quests for you to complete.
What’s fantastic is there are over 100 characters and you’re going to be able to interact with all of them. Now, that’s the definition of variety.
The objective, like the other LEGO games, is to solve puzzles to allow you to progress. However, within these missions you’re able to make certain decisions that will have consequences such as having to engage in fights.
The adherence to the tried-and-tested Lego video game formula is a bit worrisome – it makes the game feel repetitive.
Gamespot comments, “There’s a familiar, predictable feel to most of these games, and outside of cosmetic differences and some non-impactful combat additions, Lego Marvel’s Avengers very much plays like the latest iteration of a well-worn template.”
The bottom line is that this game is FUN – the diversity of characters and the unique quests will give you hours of enjoyment!
So, is this game worth buying? Well, as mentioned above, if you’re a fan of the previous games, LEGO in general and Marvel comics and movies, it is definitely a solid choice!
Pros: Able to roam freely; Spiderman DLC; storyline aligns well with the Avengers movies
Cons: Bugs and glitches; sub-par audio volume
Verdict: 7/10
