Huawei has unveiled its newest smartphone offerings in South Africa; the Nova 8 and Nova Y60. The new devices make up the brand’s new Nova series and bring a handful of innovations and features to appeal to all types of users, specifically a younger, Gen-Z audience. Here’s everything you need to know about the Huawei Nova lineup announced for South Africa.
Huawei Nova 8
The Nova 8, the flagship of the new generation Nova lineup, features a 6.57-inch display, with curved edges on the front and rear to deliver a smooth, sleek, and thin body that weighs in at only 169 grams.
In terms of its processing power, the Huawei Nova 8 features the HiSilicon Kirin 985 chip, along with 8GB of RAM, giving it quite a bit of oomph under the hood. Furthermore, it includes 128 GBs or 256 GBs of internal storage (depending on which model you choose) and a 3,800 mAh battery. The 5G device runs on the Android 10-based EMUI 11 operating system.
On the photography side, the Huawei Nova 8 features a quad rear camera setup with a 64-megapixel primary sensor, which is paired with an 8-megapixel sensor with ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 2-megapixel macro camera. There is a 32-megapixel selfie snapper on the front.
Extra bells and whistles include an in-display fingerprint scanner, fast charging capabilities (60% in just 15 minutes, according to Huawei), and an eye-catching blush gold colourway.
The Huawei Nova 8 will be available from 1 September at a price of R12,999.

Huawei Nova Y60
The sibling of the Nova, the Nova Y60, is slightly larger by offering a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of 720×1600 pixels, but it’s got less going on beneath the surface (although, still nothing to scoff at).
The device features 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, larger 5,000 mAh battery, and runs on Android 11. As far as the cameras are concerned, on the rear, the Huawei Nova Y60 includes a 13-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture; a 5-megapixel camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 2-megapixel camera with an f/2.4 aperture. It sports an 8-megapixel camera on the front for selfies with an f/2.0 aperture.
There is also a fingerprint sensor on the Nova Y60, along with dual-SIM capabilities.
The Huawei Nova Y60 will be available from 1 September at a price of R3,099.
