Exactly 10 years ago Apple introduced their first MacBook, and it would go on to revolutionise the way that we view notebooks.
Here are 10 reasons why we think the MacBook is a true trendsetter.
4. It revolutionised the keyboard
When Apple first released their ‘sunken” keyboard design it proved divisive and controversial. Some felt that the keys were too flat and difficult to type on. However, the design proved successful, making older notebook’s keys feel clunky and unresponsive, and since then many manufacturers have gone on to replicate the “sunken” keyboard design of the MacBook.
3. It was the first notebook to feature a front camera
Nowadays, it goes without saying that even the cheapest smartphones features a “selfie cam”. But back in 2006, the iSight was the first of it’s kind, giving users a new way to communicate through video chat.
Since then Apple have gone on to release their own application, FaceTime, for video chatting.
2. It showed that people are willing to pay more for bling
Since it was first released, one of the biggest criticisms levelled against the MacBook is that it is so much more expensive than similar devices.
Nowadays Apple releases limited editions and different coloured products regularly, and loyal consumers are always willing to pay a little more for Apple exclusivity.
1. It made magnetic adapters the standard
While not something new when used on the first MacBook in 2006, Apple where the first manufacturer to use a magnetic power connector as a standard rather than a premium feature. While not a massive technical revolution, the inclusion of a magnetic power connector was a subtle bonus meant to boost functionality and to be more user-friendly.
