The biggest names in the tech sector have been working on bringing VR into your living room, and now craze is stepping into one of the most beloved entertainment sectors out there. Traditional theme parks have been in need of a makeover for some time now, and virtual reality headsets are stepping up to that challenge.
Theme parks across the world are using VR headsets as part of existing rides to take them into the future.
Imagine sitting through a thrilling VR experience and feeling the wind in your hair as you plummet down a cliff, your stomach turn as soar into the air or that feeling of weightlessness as you brace yourself for a high speed drop. That’s exactly what companies in China and Swedish game studio Starbreeze aim to do by introducing VR headsets and content to theme parks, malls and other tourist destinations.
In America the Six Flags theme parks are currently upgrading their parks by allowing customers to use VR headsets on nine of their existing rollercoasters. Apart from rides, theme parks are also aiming to build “VR rooms’ that combine the world of gaming with a physical experience. Players will find themselves in virtual worlds where they will be able to physically run, jump, duck and move around in the world however they please.
