The best thing about Black Friday are the deals; the worst thing about it is not knowing what’s coming and what exactly those deals are. Well, looking back at the best sales of yesteryear, there’s a clear pattern of which categories and products tend to get the biggest discounts from retailers. So, looking into our crystal ball, here are the deals and categories to look out for in 2019:
Look out for those PS4 and Xbox One deals
Video games and consoles have been favourite purchases during past Black Fridays. With the speed and frequency that big-name releases come out, it’s easy for retailers to slash the prices on some of the chart-topping games of the year, but 2019 may be the biggest yet. With the impending reveal of the Playstation 5 and next Xbox console in 2020, it’s likely that the current PS4 and Xbox One models will receive a notable price-cut, and further dropped during Black Friday.
Smartphone upgrade on the cheap
The smartphone market in 2019 has been an interesting one, with more mid-range phones with high-end tech specs being released than ever before. With expensive flagship sales on the decline, it’s safe to say that the retailer focus will be shifted to mid-tier phone specials for Black Friday. Expect to see the likes of Huawei’s P20 and P30 Lite, along with Samsung’s A series, on sale in November.
Fashion forward
With summer rolling into full flight in South Africa during the November/December period, and winter and spring on their way out, it’s the perfect time to pick up some great fashion items. Due to the mid-season switch over, one tends to find everything from jackets and jerseys to shirts and shorts on sale from the big fashion retailers around South Africa; so you essentially get a wide selection of anything you need from a clothing perspective.
TVs
Of course, this is a no-brainer for Black Friday. Much like gaming releases, TVs are also coming out at an unprecedented rate with the technology evolving at a rapid pace. Black Friday has always been a opportunistic time to nab a new TV, and 2019 should be no different. Look out for deals on Hisense, Samsung, and LG TVs particularly.
