Our senses play a huge role in our lives. We touch things (keyboards, our food, doors etc) everyday to ensure we can eat, breathe and live. Hearing is another important sense, allowing us to enjoy music, tv shows and YouTube videos.
Amar Bose may not be the world’s most well known person but he was the founder of Bose. If you ask the sound aficionados they will tell you that Bose and Bang & Olufsen make some of the nicest and highest quality sound accessories (sound docks, headphones and earphones).
So it was with great sadness to learn that Amar Bose passed away last week. Bose was a revolutionary and seemingly typical inventor. He was an MIT professor and lectured until 2001. He then donated all of his stock options to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) which are valued at millions of dollars on the condition that MIT cannot sell them. How many inventors have done that?
Bose’s passing comes at a time when his company is battling upstarts like Beats by Dre and Sennheiser to stay relevant. I know the argument can be made that Bose is in a completely different price class versus the competition but not many people are aware of this great company. Amar Bose was a revolutionary inventor that leaves a mark on history and on an industry that is becoming more main stream. How many people now own headphones and speaker docs?
The world has lost another inventor..
