8 Tips To Help Save Your Smartphone’s Battery Life

Improve your phone’s battery life with the help of these quick, easy tips.

It’s a modern problem that we all face; our smartphone’s battery never seems to last as long as we’d like as we find ourselves dashing for the charger every evening. While researchers work on a battery that has an endless lifespan, we’ve compiled a few tips to help you save some juice.

Turn off vibrations.

The vibration feature on a smartphone actually uses more battery power than what people think. Only use it when you have to put your phone on silent, otherwise switch off the feature and use only your ringtone to notify you of calls and messages.

Enable your screen timeout, and keep it short.

This feature allows you to adjust how long your phone’s screen will stay lit after receiving input. This saves battery life by not having to keep the screen lit constantly. Most modern smartphones will allow you to set screen timeout to under one minute.

Turn off your WiFI and Bluetooth.

Both of these will drain your battery even if they are not being used. Turn them off when you’re not using them, like if you’re outside or in your car.

Turn off any apps running in the background.

Most smartphones will allow you to run different app simultaneously, even while they are not in use. By switching off any apps you may have running in the background you will take pressure off your CPU and battery.

Dim your screen brightness.

The brighter your screen, the more energy it requires to power up when going from timeout mode to active. The auto-dimming function will dim your screen automatically to the most optimal brightness for reading and viewing content on your phone. Alternatively, you can dim your screen yourself.

Be wary of your charger.

While it is not necessary that you always use the particular charger that came with your phone, it must be noted that using a cheap charger can damage your battery in the long run.

Disable the GPS function.

While active, any apps that make use of the GPS function, such as Facebook or Google Maps, will continue to receive and send information. Switching off the GPS while not using it will prevent apps from using the location service, and save on battery power.

Occasionally drain the battery completely.

While modern smartphones do not need to be fully charged before using them, it does help keep your battery’s health to fully drain and charge the battery once in awhile.
