5 Festive Season Movies Not to Be Missed

0

After the year we’ve had, there’s no doubt we’re all in need of some festive cheer. While this festive season will be different from previous years, that doesn’t mean that it should be any less joyous. While we continue to avoid crowded public places, it’s the perfect time to sit back and relax in front of the TV, with a festive movie. Because, if anything can get you in the festive spirit, it’s a festive movie. Whether they’re classics or new, there’s something about a holiday movie that brings on all the warm and fuzzies. Not sure what to watch? Check out our list of festive favourites to help you get into the holiday spirit this December. Here are our picks for the top 5 festive season movies to catch this month:

Holidate

This Netflix original film was directed by John Whitesell, from a screenplay by Tiffany Paulsen. It stars Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Jake Manley, Jessica Capshaw, Andrew Bachelor, Frances Fisher, Manish Dayal and Kristin Chenoweth.

The film follows Sloane, a young woman living in Chicago who hates the holidays due to the judgement she receives from her family for not being in a relationship. Having recently broken up with her boyfriend, her mother Elaine is constantly trying to set her up with a new man, much to Sloane’s annoyance. Fed up with her meddling family members, Sloane reluctantly hatches a plan with Jackson, an Australian golfer visiting the US, to be each other’s platonic plus-ones all year long.

Love Actually

What would the holiday season be without this movie? Even if you’re not a fan of romantic comedies, you’ll be hard-pressed to resist the charms of this quintessentially English, slightly awkward, heart-warming tale. The star-studded movie focuses on the lives of eight very different couples and their love lives leading up to Christmas day.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

No Christmas movie marathon would be complete without watching the good ol’ Grinch. In How the Grinch Stole Christmas, you’ll follow the shenanigans of the revenge-seeking Grinch who plans to ruin Christmas for everyone. Starring Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen, this film follows the antics of a green, revenge-seeking Grinch, who lives on the outskirts of Whoville. The Grinch plots to ruin Christmas for all the citizens of the town, but Christmas cheer prevails.

The Polar Express

Another must-watch classic! On Christmas Eve, a young boy boards a mysterious train bound for the North Pole and embarks on an extraordinary journey to visit Santa Claus. His belief in the magic of Christmas takes a turn after his encounters with special people on his journey. This animated film stars Tom Hanks as multiple characters in the magical universe.

The Princess Switch: Switched Again

What’s not to love about this movie? If you’ve watched The Princess Switch about a thousand times, then you’ll love the sequel. This Netflix original is now available for streaming and is the ideal romantic comedy to enjoy with the family. This time around there are new challenges to face and new doubles to deal with! When Duchess Margaret unexpectedly inherits the throne to Montenaro and hits a rough patch with Kevin, it’s up to her double Stacy to save the day before a new lookalike, party girl Fiona foils their plans.
