So just to get an idea of how big that number really is, let’s have a look at it: 5 000 000 000 (I am counting the zeros in my head as I type that). The current number of people using mobile phones around the world is sitting at a steady 4.3 billion. Africa and Asia are expected to increase by 145 million. (According to eMarketer)
There are so many things we can expect to see from this user increase, from offline as well as online stores, from mobile developers to social media influences to advertising right down to simple phone calls for the average day to day consumers: you and me.
As consumers, the increase of this number should have a lot more pros than cons. There will be more products available to us, thus leading to more competition among the actual mobile developers, which can lead to things such as price decreases, longer battery life, faster features etc – anything to keep their sales going. This may not only be the case with the cellphone developers, but also with network providers who will be offering better and better rates to stay on top as well.
With so many more people expected to be on mobile, it could just be the push for most offline stores to start finding themselves an online presence which will light the fire under the current online stores to keep moving, keep updated, keep at the top of their game. This is fantastic for consumers as it can only lead to an increase of better service.
These facts and benefits are only a drop in the ocean of what this amount of mobile users can mean, but don’t let the number scare you, it can only lead onto bigger and better things for us.
